Spain Plans New Cut In Photovoltaic Solar Subsidies -Government

DOW JONES - Spain's government plans to cut subsidies to photovoltaic solar power further after a recent fall in the price of solar panels, a spokesman for the industry ministry said Tuesday. New regulation for solar feed-in tariffs is being prepared, but the spokesman couldn't say when and by how much the government plans to lower the subsidies.

Spain's plan to lower solar subsidies comes after Germany in January said it plans a 15% cut in April for solar roof installations and a 10% cut in farmland installations. Spain in 2008 had already cut subsidies to photovoltaic solar power by up to 36%, which led to a near standstill of new installations in Spain in 2009.
