Top 10 Biggest Announced PV Projects in Mexico 2015

Author: Alexandra Mebane, Solarplaza

SENER (Ministry of Energy), the CRE (Energy Regulatory Commission) and CENACE (National Center for Energy Control) are all presently working together to revitalize the Mexican solar market. The newly instated  institution CENACE regulates the transmission and distribution of services, while the CRE no longer requires permit requirements for independent power producers. SENER’s position is continuing to oversee and regulate the wholesale market, and the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) has become a regular competitor within the liberalized electricity market.

Because of the metamorphosis of the electricity market, solar energy in Mexico is booming, with approximately 900 MW predicted to be coming down the pipeline for 2015. The Mexican Ministry of Energy (CRE) expects 2,170 MW to be installed by the end of the decade. This comprehensive Top 10 includes projects that have already been approved by the governing bodies and will mostly be online within the year.
