The US solar industry experienced an extraordinary year in 2024, building on the previous year's momentum. By Q3 2024, the nation’s cumulative solar capacity reached an impressive 209.8 GW, marking a significant expansion, especially in the utility-scale segment.1 Over the span of a year, from Q3 2023 to Q3 2024, the US added 47 GW of solar capacity. 24 GW of these additions came from utility-scale installations between Q1 and Q3 of 2024, highlighting the critical role of large-scale projects in the energy transition.
The solar sector’s accelerating pace of growth is highlighted by the fact that 67% of the newly added electricity generation capacity came from solar by the first half of 2024.2
